I was out and about this morning, looking for the pregnant Roe Deer I have been keeping an eye on, who I was hoping had given birth to a kid. She has (whoopee); but that is for another post.
Anyway, I had seen the deer and her kid from a distance, but I thought I’d take another path where I might get a closer (but not too close) view. What I got though was something completely unexpected, but so exciting!
I was walking along, keeping an eye out for anything amongst the trees and I spotted something. Too small for an adult deer, so my initial thought was, ‘is it the kid’? However, when I looked through my camera lens I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It’s a Muntjac … in Saddleworth! I’ve been following local deer for a year now, and seen them in a number of places. I’ve hidden amongst the trees watching them go by, but never have I seen a Muntjac. It’s a male and it looked like it was on its own. After a minute or so it disappeared amongst the bushes, so I let it go and headed home, to see the photos and make sure I wasn’t mistaken.
No – not mistaken; it certainly was a Muntjac. I checked the local Facebook groups to see if there were any reports or photos of any other sightings. I couldn’t find any, but that doesn’t necessarily mean no one has seen one.
It would be exciting though to think this could be the first confirmed sighting of a Muntjac deer in the area.
Hello, just wanted to say, I enjoyed this post. It
was practical. Keep on posting!
It’s hard to come by educated people for this topic, but you seem like you know what you’re talking
about! Thanks
