I was just going out to put the trail camera on location and had an unexpected, but very pleasant, watch of the fox cubs.
I saw there were four or five of them, with one in particular being quite boisterous! I think a couple of the cubs wanted to be left alone, but someone wanted to play. I took the opportunity to get some video on my camera, rather than it usually being on a trail camera.
I was crouched down behind a tree, behind a crumbling wall. A couple of the cubs came down to not far where I was and I was hoping they wouldn’t see me. One of them went behind some bushes, heading even closer in my direction. I wondered if he was going to just pop out in front of me … which he did! He didn’t see me at first; just walking toward me head down. Then, he looked up; saw me; paused for a moment, then scuppered off! It really was a treat seeing him so close up. Such a cutie!
Even though there was a close encounter, not all of the cubs disappeared. Most of them were just chilling out – in a sunny spot if they could find one. I decided I’d abandon the trail camera this morning and leave the cubs to themselves.
Hopefully there will be other days before they get older and go their separate ways.
