More Birds Than Deer

Deer have been a little thin on the ground this week. I have seen the trio and solo deer in my usual haunt, but also I have not been out looking for them this past week as much as usual. I took myself off to a couple of new locations and visited country parks, mainly just to change things and see somewhere new. The biggest surprise was in a country park in Greater Manchester. I had been wandering around for a couple of hours and was on my way back to the car when I heard a right racket. Looking up in the tree I saw a group of parakeets. A strange sight, but not as uncommon as you might think.  I did also see a Dipper, but as much as I tried to get close enough for a decent photo, it kept avoiding my advances by flying back and forth along the river!

I did go for my usual wander a couple of times. The solo deer (‘Angel’ – see other blog post), saw me first and ran off. She did pause for a moment and look back through the trees, but then she was gone.

The three deer that go around together (the photo aside is one of them), were on the hillside. I was a long way from them, and across a stream, but they were still keeping an eye on me. I’m sure we’ll all see each other again soon.

There were a few interesting birds I saw the past week; not only the Ring-Collared Parakeets. Whilst walking through one of the parks a nuthatch landed close by and started singing. In a pond near the house, I’ve only ever seen ducks on it. However, earlier on in the week there was a male and female Goosander; something I’d not seen anywhere before. And the last photo below is a long-tailed tit. A group of them landed in a tree just next to me. Difficult little blighters to photo as they’re small and don’t keep still!
