Ever seen a badger chase roe deer? It is only brief, but watch the video below.
There is also a video of the dipper feeding in the river Tame.
It has been a while since I put the trail cameras out, but I’d seen several deer in a specific area, so I set two cameras up and left them for almost a week, to check if they were regular visitors. As hoped, there were a few deer frequenting the area, but the best surprise was a badger! And seeing the badger chasing two deer away! It’s only a brief moment at the start of the video, but it’s something I’ve never witnessed before! It seems the badger is currently using this particular area for food as it appeared a couple of days. Obviously didn’t like the deer treading on its patch!
Before I set the trail cameras up, I’d noticed a number of patches where leaves had been cleared away, leaving a circular ‘bed’, a tell-tale sign of deer resting up. A camera captured the moment a roe buck settled down, had a chew on something, a sleep and got back up again. A shame the deer is so close to the camera, as you don’t always see it fully, but you still see this (edited) scenario play out.
I came across the dipper whilst walking along the side of the river, on my way to collect the trail cameras. I hadn’t seen one for a long time and wondered whether there even was any along this stretch any more. However, I spotted one quickly flying ahead of me. I stopped walking and managed to creep forward a little and get a couple of photos. However, a couple walking their dog appeared and the dipper flew further away. I decided to wait where I was as I thought the dipper might head back toward me, because of the couple continuing toward it. Luckily for me it did turn back and continue to feed in the river. I took some video of it, dipping in and out of the water. Fascinating to watch this small bird battling with the fast running water.
I abandoned the dipper watching when a different dog walking couple appeared, and the bird flew away!
