Badger & Co at the water tray – And a mother and her fawns

At the time of writing this, the weather is pretty awful. However, the previous weeks have been very dry and hot, so I thought I would make sure the local badgers had some water. I got an old paint tray and put it out near an entrance to the sett, then set up a trail camera and waited. Several days later and here’s the result. Not only badgers, but a fox, deer, robin, squirrel and mouse.

The first badger visit and it’s not too sure about this ‘thing’ that has appeared at it’s home. However, the badgers do come out for a sip. The fox doesn’t seem to like it at all. The Robin loves it. The deer isn’t sure. The squirrel is very thirsty and the mouse just has a little look.

It was all very makeshift, but it was good to see some of the local wildlife visit. Have a watch of the video – it’s great fun.

It’s the time of year where I would hope to see some fawns. Unlike last year though, I hadn’t seen a pregnant doe in the area. However, on an early morning walk, before breakfast, I spotted some movement on the hill – and there they were, two young fawns. Somehow they had got themselves on the other side of the fence to their mum. One of the fawns jumped at the fence, maybe not realising that it’s not big enough yet to be able to jump over! I then spotted mum, who also spotted me. She allowed me a minute before leading her fawns away into the trees.
