It has been a while since I was last out, looking mainly for the local deer. But they are still here. Personally, I think they look their best at this time of year. They have a lovely red, rusty colour to the their coat. And seeing a buck, standing proud in the long grass, like the one above, is a pleasure to see.
At this time of year, the woodland is thick and overgrown, making it difficult to spot the deer before they spot you and disappear. Rather than walking around hoping for a glimpse, I found a quiet spot and settled down to wait. After some time, a roe deer appeared in front of me. Completely unaware of my presence, it carried on naturally, giving me the opportunity to sit quietly and watch it eat on some fresh leaves and clean herself. She did actually look my way, right down the camera, but fortunately she didn’t see me.
As well as a walk through the woods, my partner and I took an evening stroll a few days earlier. There seemed to be deer everywhere; well not quite, but they were on both sides of the lane. They didn’t seem too worried by our presence either, just going about their business.
Along the lane, if you keep a lookout, there are sometimes brown hares to be seen in the fields. This evening we were fortunate enough to see one. It didn’t hang around for long though. It saw us and took off!
I also had my trail camera out for several days in a familiar spot. I was hoping it would capture a young roe deer. And it did! In addition, there was an unexpected visitor that got close to the camera, and a roe buck that got even closer!
