Rather than doing separate posts for different sightings from the last couple of weeks, here is a round-up of what has been happening.
I have had the trail camera out several times, so I’m sharing some of the best bits below. These include deer, badgers, a fox, and a hare. Exciting times. I’ve put the videos first, then I’m sharing some photographs that I took.
Here’s a short video of a very close-up view of a fox. It looks as though it’s about to walk off, but it comes back round and has a good look into the camera. Wonderful!
At the end, there’s a short clip of a badger going back to its sett at night.
I Left two trail cameras out, specifically to check whether there are still badgers in the sett. There are a number of entrances, but apart from one, the rest don’t look in use. The good news is that there are still badgers. At least two, maybe three. I’ll be putting the cameras out again in a few weeks to see if there are any cubs. Let’s hope so!
There is a bonus at the end of this video. A hare makes a brief appearance, very close to the camera.
I wondered where the roe deer were spending their time in the local wood. I’d seen tracks that looked well-used, so I put a couple of trail cameras near them. I was right in terms of the tracks being in use. There were plenty of deer strolling, running, and one especially taking an interest in the camera. At the start of the video, you can see how close he comes.
As well as using the trail cameras, I’ve been out with my camera.
I’ve seen deer in the local woods and a (secret) location, where I also spotted a hare. Hares can be a little frustrating. As soon as they spot you, they usually take off. This one time, I got lucky as one just sat by the tree long enough for me to get a photo – then it legged it! A little fact. Hares are the UK’s fastest land mammal, reaching speeds of up to 45mph!
There’s also a few little birds to add. A very nice chaffinch sat on a branch, and a nuthatch with a great tit in the background.
